Primosten INFO - About Primosten - Primosten History
According to some historical sources, the population in Primosten area moved from Bosnia, fleeing the Turkish invasion. Established the first settlements in the hinterland: Prhovo, Krusevo and Siroke. A century later, they did not feel safe from Turkish attacks, and they retreated to the small island, "Gola Glava". Communication with the mainland took place over the wooden bascule bridge, which is, with small island surrounded by the wall, providing the security to a local population.
Name Primosten, which owes, according to some, just what was on "the bridge", while others believe that is called so simply because the island is "bridged" (premosten) and thanks to our dialect, it became "primosten". Although the land around was "Poor", the population is engaged in agriculture. The most famous monument of human labor, and evidence that the poor conditions of the human effort can make a miracle, is a vineyard Bucavac which should get protected by UNESCO very soon. "Stone Lace," as someone becouse of its beauty, called the vineyards Bucavac, serves for the pride of all Primosten citizens who are also it's owners. Special attractions are Bucavac drywalls which watching from a distance, make the "lace rock". In fact, sixty years ago Primosten's workers began to pioneer the field of stone and struggled inch by inch the land in which they planted varietal Babic, which proved to be ideal for the summer field-suffering drought and winter cold and wind. Due to long dry periods, Primosten area sailors called "dry point". Although farmers, ie., our "workers", that information is not something that makes them happy, long dry periods and many sunny days favors the development of tourism activities, according to Primosten, which is now known throughout Europe. It all started with the camp, "Esperanto" on the peninsula Raduča. Also, international gardens are regulated, so that brings the ground to the peninsula from all over the world. So primosten becomes cosmopolitan place in which are propagated the ideas of brotherhood, friendship and healthy life. The first hotel, "Raduča" was built in 1965. Shortly afterwards there was builded hotels "Zora" and "Slava". Thus, with the pavilions built before,the "Jupiter", "Mars," "Venus" and "Saturn", was completed the tourist offer on the peninsula Raduča. Further expansion of tourists happens in 1971st. becouse of building the hotel for naturists "Marina Lucica". Still near the town are positioned auto camp "Adriatic" and marine "Kremik" located exactly at the bottom of the vineyards in Bucavac. Local residents, recognizing good business opportunity in tourism, contribute to the development of the town with the construction of rooms, suites, coffee bars, taverns and restaurants, and so enrich the tourist offer of the town. Cleanliness of the sea and the possibility of finding in all weather conditions calm and wind and wave-protected bays, is one of the many benefits of Primosten. Pleasant summer evening, enriched with numerous cultural events, folklore, providing guests an unforgettable days and nights spent in the town. The narrow stone paved streets ("kale") enclosed with stone buildings and some crone who knows with the rosary in her hand disinterested sit in front, especially remain in the memory of all who once visit Primosten. Usually all of them return the following summer. And so year after year ...
